Aaaaand, we're off to the woods with our dogs Pickles and Pepper. This was our first vacation with the dogs in a long time. To be honest, we are home bodies and don't get out much with our seven kids and two dogs. And part of the reason why we don't travel too much is because we don't love leaving our dogs at the kennel or in someone else's care. Not to mention it's expensive! Especially during high travel periods.
This happens to be our Fall Break for our school district so by the time I called around all of the doggie hotels and dog sitters were booked full.
At the last minute, our sweet friends let us hang out in their cabin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma for three days. What a blast and it was such a breeze even with our dogs.
Pack Light
Keeping it simple and packing light was the best thing we did!
- Dog food - enough for your stay
- Food bowls
- Water bowl
- Dog meds with a small container of peanut butter
- Leashes
- Grocery bags / poop bags
- Dog Kennel with their favorite blanket or bed

Road Trip
When you or your kids need a potty break, your dogs probably need one too. Our trip was about 3 hours each way with one potty stop each time.
And don't forget water! The dogs were pretty thirsty so we gave them water during our potty stops.
Vacation Cabin Rental
VRBO and airbnb vacation rentals are great for traveling families and I was so surprised to see so many that were pet friendly. I almost booked a stay at another cabin, but our friends were nice enough to let us stay in their gorgeous cabin. We are especially careful with our dogs because we didn't want to damage their property. The dogs were happy in their kennels at night. And spent most of their days out by the creek.
